Revathi Ramachandran steps down as Kalakshetra director


Bharatanatyam dancer Revathi Ramachandran has resigned because the director of Kalakshetra months after protests over inaction on sexual harassment complaints rocked the autonomous high-quality arts institute in Chennai underneath the Union tradition ministry.

In a publish on X on Thursday, the institute stated Aneish Rajan on Wednesday changed Ramachandran, who was appointed because the director in March 2018.

Ramachandran introduced the closure of the establishment, requested the scholars to vacate the hostel inside two days, and postponed exams when the protests began on March 30.

The scholars had been demanding motion in opposition to 4 academics for alleged sexual harassment. Hari Padman, an assistant professor, was arrested in April based mostly on the criticism of an alumna. He was granted bail in June.

The institute’s governing board suspended Padman and dismissed instructors Sanjith Lal, Sai Krishnan, and Sreenath over the allegations.

A retired Punjab and Haryana excessive courtroom choose Okay Kannan-led inquiry committee constituted over the allegations submitted its report in August describing Padman as a “delinquent worker” and really helpful “main punishment”. The panel was arrange as the scholars sought an impartial probe alleging the institute’s administration was defending the accused.

On March 19, Kalakshetra launched an announcement saying its inner complaints committee discovered no fact within the allegations. Ramachandran maintained that the allegations had been rumours meant to spoil the establishment’s picture.
